While expecting:
- Follow the Diet for Pregnant and Nursing Moms1, adding Kelp, Bladderwrack, and iodine (topically or orally)
- Read this article on breastfeeding and alternatives2
- Salt, specifically Celtic Sea Salt, is essential to help your body hold more fluid for pregnancy and lactation. A major symptom of low salt/sodium is nausea! Be sure to eat as much salt as your taste asks for, and if nauseated, have salt with water or broth on an empty stomach (30 minutes before or 90 minutes after eating, or after vomiting)
- Research placenta encapsulation.
- Many sources recommend against Vitamin A during pregnancy. This is dangerous, inaccurate information. Please read this article3, with specifics for pregnancy starting about 1/3 down in the article.

- Fevers are not to be feared! While fever in a newborn is a medical event (please call your doctor or visit an emergency room), as a baby grows older, fever is a beneficial mechanism of the immune system. Calcium is released from tissue into the blood stream to tag the invaders, and interferon is released to boost immune functions.
- Manage the fever and support immunity by adding calcium and whole complex C. Please see my instructions for fevers in a separate document. Study these instructions and have these products on hand before you need them. Ask me for specific products you can have on hand for your infant.
When baby arrives:
- Baby’s first solid food should be meat (preferably liver) or warm egg yolk. Please make these yourself. Meat can be simmered in pure water, no seasonings except Celtic Sea Salt and butter, and blended with breast milk or formula. Egg yolk can be spooned from a soft-boiled egg.
- Never use mineral oil or petrolatum/petroleum jelly on baby’s skin. These are not food grade oils, but will absorb into the system and require excretion. This taxes the liver and also carries fat-soluble vitamins out of the body.
- Cod liver oil is a very important supplement to begin early. Vitamins A and D in cod liver oil are essential and missing in diets today. Do not buy flavored versions and be sure to read the label! Purchase a brand which is not processed in such a way that removes the natural vitamin D3 and replaces it with synthetic D2. The ratio of Vitamin A to Vitamin D should be 10:1. One excellent product is Green Pastures’ fermented cod liver oil.6
- Do not give baby fluoride. Do not use fluoridated water for formula or foods. Do not give fluoride supplements such as Tri-Vi- Fluor. Please refer to www.fluoridealert.org for more information.
- Do research with regard to vaccinations before choosing to vaccinate your baby. There are many options for boosting immune systems and protecting from illness. Vaccinations given in cocktail mixes are much riskier than single dose vaccines. Waiting until baby is at least one year old, or even pre-school, is often tolerated better. To protect against vaccine reactions, optimize whole complex C factors, iodine levels, and never vaccinate when baby is already feeling poorly. - Consider homeopathy as a vaccination alternative. Read the article “Homeopathic Protection Against Epidemic Diseases”.8 Also recommended is Homeopathic Education: the Unfolding of Experience9, by Catherine Coulter.
- While breastfeeding is best, when not possible please refer to the linked article for healthy homemade formulas.10 There are also breast milk “banks” for supplies, too. Consider the Lact-Aid Trainer System11 for breastfeeding challenges. This is not expensive and would be a wise purchase “just in case.” Always avoid soy formulas, which are thyroid suppressant and endocrine disruptive.
- Use first aid iodine, with copper coloring, on baby’s skin in a 2” swath. Notice when it fades and apply again in a different location. Remember iodine as a disinfectant for any cuts!
- It is possible to muscle-test baby using the parent as a surrogate. Please explore this tool for nutrient support, and as an option for a medical crisis. Even Down’s Syndrome and similar genetic issues respond to early nutritional intervention.
- Teach your baby sign language. Signing Time books and DVD’s12 are recommended.
